Competitive atmosphere at the 2025 Scottish Backgammon Open in Aberdeen, showcasing players engaged in intense matches.

It was a weekend for the new players at the 2025 Scottish Backgammon Open in Aberdeen.

Graeme Leslie triumphed to win the trophy at his only second tournament, beating another tournament rookie James Ferguson in the final. In a stand-out weekend, James also went on to win the Doubles Event with the other half of the Edinburgh duo, Matthew Hopkins.

And to make it a hat-trick of victories for tournament newcomers, Sandy Ferguson, Ayr Club, completed a double success by winning the Consultation and the Friday Night Warm Up.

The event attracted 62 entrants from across the UK as well as players travelling from The Netherlands and Germany. There was a great atmosphere over the weekend.

TD Graeme McPhee said, “It was great to see so many new tournament players do so well, particularly as they all come from Scotland.

Club chair Brenda Rafferty added, “Thanks to everyone who supported our tournament. We hope they all enjoyed the weekend. We are delighted that the Scottish Open will become a regular fixture in the UK Backgammon Calendar.
